# Cell Types

These sections contain information on datasets that establish the identity of
cells from the genes they express, their morphology, connectivity, or electrophysiological properties.

[Visual Learning Transcriptomics](spatial-transcriptomics/VL-mFISH) describes the
experimental methods used to measure gene expression in intact tissue, the
structure of the resulting data, and approaches for classifying neurons into
cell types. This method was applied in the
[Visual Learning](/physiology/ophys/visual-learning/VL-Ophys) dataset, where the
same neurons were also imaged in vivo; the procedure that links the two
measurements is described in
[Linking Ophys and Transcriptomics](/physiology/ophys/visual-learning/VL-Integration).
